Movie Night Library

I've come up with an idea for all you movie no-goers. You know who you are! I seem to have a group of friends who are always coming up short with what to rent when they end up at the movie store. See, my hubby and I used to go to all kinds of movies when we were first dating. We went to a few less when we first married, and now that we have little ones at home, well....we don't attend at the theatre much anymore. HOWEVER, that being said; we still LOVE movies and own a little library of dvds that we happen to like very much. Here is your chance to take a moment and write down the name of the movie I'm giving you....and run to the video store, Blockbuster Online, or Netflix.

My husbands library tends to consist of "manly" movies like U-571 and Stealth. I however tend to have a broader range of great films I enjoy watching over and over again. I actually enjoy watching action adventure with Chad too! I really like most movie styles, well except stupid gore like The Texas Chainsaw Massecre types. I try my hardest to watch "clean" movies....but sometimes you just need to watch R rated movies...for instance Schindler's List...I mean come on....a must see, but most deffinately rated R. So here I am to try my hand at doing a weekly or every other weekly post on movies. You let me know if this is something you like, ok? If not....well, we'll ditch it. I only have one request: please share your feelings about each movie I post once you've watched it, so others can benefit. I will not be offended if it's not your cup of tea. But please be polite, ok?

This week's movie is Pride & Prejudice. I mean seriously folks, you can't go wrong here. Don't mistake this for stuffy old fashioned BBC type versions of Jane Austin.....this movie is smokin' good! It is rated PG and could be watched with kids around....although I think you'd enjoy it more without them as there are so many great lines to catch. It is an instant classic, and if you've never taken the time to watch it before....well here is your chance. I challenge you to go out and get it ASAP. Truly this is one of the greatest love stories of all times; and honestly my husband who loves those action movies??? Well, even he can watch this one. Don't tell him I said so!

Enjoy your weekend, and be on the lookout for Pride & Prejudice from Focus Features. Kiera Knightly, Matthew McFadyen, Brenda Blethyn, Donald Sutherland, and Judi Dench are the showstoppers here. Pay close attention to all the fabulous interiors, impeccable costumes, enchanting music, and most especially the sweeping landscape shots. You will be an Anglophile, and a Jane Austin fan in less than 1/2 an hour, I promise!
Enjoy!!!

Have you seen this? What do you think? Do you have anything to add? Please do! :o)

  1. I pretty much watch this once a month if you get my drift. Its so visually stunning and everyone has stopped teasing me about it and have been known to quote from it too, albeit tongue in cheek. My teenage son also watches along and enjoys the intertwining of the characters.

  3. One of my all time favorites! My husband keeps asking me if we've watched it before. He just doesn't appreciate the classics. Fabulous movie. Hope you all enjoy it too.

  4. Of course I loved it! The cinematography and settings are so creative. I was especially moved by the scenes when Elizabeth Bennett's emotions are characterized by a landscape detail or the weather. She's part of nature--under and part of a beautiful and old giant tree, overwhelmed in a wild rain or moved to be in a spectacular high place. It's worth watching just for these beautiful sets.

  5. Rachael, you can be sure it is actually rubbing off on him in some small way...even a bit of Mr. Darcy is a good thing! And Paula...my oh my, you are a kindred spirit who knows how to put things into words far better than I! I love your description of Elizabeth as nature. You are so right...but I've never put it completely into this context before! Thank-you both for commenting! I feel like I need to pop it in the DVD again tonight! :o)

  6. Ok, this IS a great movie, but I have to admit I'm partial to the A&E 6 hour version with Colin Firth. To me, he IS and always will be, Mr Darcy.
And 6 hours of Jane Austen!! Even my husband wishes for snow days and sick days so we can watch the whole thing uninterruptedly!

  7. OOOOHHH, I own that one too! I have to admit, with little ones around it is harder to watch all 6 hours. Jennifer Ehle is simply awesome in that movie! Mrs. Bennett drives my hubby crazy in that one, so he'd never watch it with me! I guess that means she did a great job! ..."Exceed their income....ha!" I can hear her saying now! :o)

I was able to go see the gowns used, and many of the set goodies used in England while there on holiday. It was surreal to see the outfits I'd seen all those many times.

Great to hear from you Ms. Recyclista! Loving that name by the way...Cheers, and happy blogging!
